The Serai, Bandipur

In the midst of Bandipur Tiger reserve and national park ‘The Serai’ has rooms, cottages and villas merging with natural surroundings. The resort is built on 18 acres and rest 20 acres have been planted with trees to attract beautiful birds. Built with local materials with its own rainwater harvesting system. Gray water treatment is used to water the lush gardens. Use of recycled paper, bio-degradable bin liners, use of waste wood and employing locals are other major contributions to sustainable living. They also dig watering holes for wild animals in the nearby forest. Several endemic birds and animal species can be seen in the 20 acres of planted outer region of the property. Similar systems are in place in their other properties at Kabini and Chickmagalur.

Banasura Hill Resort, Wayanad Kerala

This resort is made from recycled wood and mud known as rammed earth. It is located in a 35 acre ecofriendly farm surrounded by pristine natural beauty. Natural light and CFL’s have minimal energy consumption. Biogas from waste fuels the kitchen fires. This is Asia’s  largest “Earth Resort”.

The Green Magic Resort, Wayanad, Kerala

Rooms are 80-90 ft above ground and made by natural biodegradable materials. Water counterweight cane lift is used to access the tree house.

A traditional Chettinad home turned hotel has laundry bags, gift bags all made of paper. Plastic items are recycled and waste from the kitchen is composted. Food is served in the traditional way, on banana leaves which are also added to the compost. No washing plates means less water usage.
