Added Sugars in Food a Health Issue

Health columnist for The Washington Post Ellie Krieger spoke about the dietary effects of added sugars  which are added to food to make them sweeter. White/brown sugar, honey, maple syrup,and concentrated grape juice are all natural, but they are actually added sweeteners made up entirely of sugars.

Naturally occurring sugars are those already present in food, like fruit and dairy products, these whole foods are a total health package including fibre, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants.

The bottom line is to keep the added sugars to a minimum and not to worry about the inherent natural ones as they are in balance with other nutrients in whole food. Read the full article here
