Hotels are different than resorts and making them environment friendly takes more effort than a resort in a far away place. Managing carbon foot print in the  the middle of  a busy city is extremely difficult ,providing the luxuries and facilities a city hotel is supposed to. These hotels have reduced their carbon foot prints managing  well with the city’s existing infrastructure.

 

The Raintree Hotels, Chennai   

This is one of the most talked about eco-friendly hotel in India these days. They have effective zero waste management, own aerobic decomposing unit with biogas generation. Materials used are 100% free of polythene, CFC’s and VOC’s. They have CFL’s, recycled paper, sewage treatment plant water flow restrictors etc. Top of their green list is 100% energy self-sufficiency by two wind-mills at Tirunelvelii wind farming.  Raintree also urges guests to contribute to the hotel’s efforts to practice sustainability

The Orchid, Mumbai  

India’s first zero garbage hotel has a vermiculture project which eliminates the garbage  and also takes care of the gardens in and around the hotel. This Ecotel® hotel changed over to CFL’s and saved 33 Lakhs.

The Floatel, Kolkata

This is Kolkata only floating hotel. By applying its 3-R motto-reduce, reuse and recycle-to its waste management program, the hotel manages to recycle 15 kg of solid waste daily.

The Park

Practices sustainable living in the busy shopping area of Connaught Place, New Delhi by using organic food, rainwater harvesting, solar power to  water heaters, biodegradable garbage bags and a unique VFD system to maintain water pressure so that extra water is not wasted. Moreover, all their garbage bags are biodegradable. Rooms are all fitted with low-energy consuming LED lights.

ITC Maurya, New Delhi is awarded the ‘Best Eco Friendly Hotel’ at India’s National Tourism Awards. It’s motto of responsible luxury is well taken care of as the hotel practices water/ energy conservation, recycling etc. World’s largest LEED® certified hotel is the first one to install Paraboloid solar concentrators in world. Most of the food and beverages are produced/harvested locally. Chemical free with 99% recycling of solid waste are some of the other efforts towards cleaner and better environment.

This is first certified eco-friendly 5-star hotel in India, close to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The lush green environs spread over 10 acres with more than 200,000 plants surrounding it. The hotel has passed all the stringent norms of eco certification year after year on energy conservation, waste management, staff training & awareness etc. All food requirements are sourced from local sources as much as possible.
