SQUARE FOOT GARDEN ….. For Small Open Spaces
Dividing the growing area into small square sections (typically 12″ on a side, hence the name) is called SQUARE FOOT GARDEN. It results in a simple and orderly gardening system for growing vegetables and herbs.
We all have little space left out could be our balcony or terrace and have always thought how we could use it to grow plants. SQUARE FOOT GARDEN is the best option as it only requires a foot to grow 4 different types of plants. Founded by Mel Bartholomew in a 1981.
All you have to do is Build a Box with a plywood bottom and cover it with a plastic sheet. Fill it with a soil mix, laying down a 12 inch by 12 inch grid, to divide the box into 16 square feet. Adding gird is the most important part as you can locate your plants and space them properly.
Plant different crop in every single square foot. You can plant vegetables, flowers, herbs and many more. Planting and replanting becomes easy with square-foot-garden . When each square is harvested you add a new compost mix and replant it with a different crop depending on the season

Thanks Lincy. I have spare box and will start this. How about planting the squares with a time gap so that when one is ready to harvest second one is about to get ready and so on. It can create a constant supply of kitchen herbs like mint and coriander.
Thank you dear, yes you can do it if looking out for same veggies.
Looks so nice.. good idea to start for self too…thanks for sharing
